Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has raised concerns about Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reportedly contacting former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce for flight upgrades, calling it “a bit strange” for a transport minister to personally request favors from a major industry stakeholder.
While noting that airline upgrades based on availability are standard practice, Dutton questioned the appropriateness of Albanese’s approach.
The opposition is now pressing for more transparency, with transport spokesperson Bridget McKenzie stating that only Joyce and the Prime Minister can clarify the nature of their relationship. McKenzie argued that the ties between the Albanese government and Qantas have led to poor outcomes for shareholders, employees, and customers, suggesting a potential parliamentary inquiry into the matter.
