The students and job seekers imposed the nationwide “complete shutdown” on Thursday, leading a movement to change the government employment quota system.
Everything except hospitals and other emergency services was to be closed per their request. Students and job seekers are observing the program in protest of the attack on students’ peaceful movement, which is abhorrent and resulted in the deaths of at least six people.
Several hundred protesters have blocked the Grameenphone Centre in Dhaka, demanding a restoration of internet service that has been disrupted since last night amid the nationwide quota protest.
They started the blockade at 6 pm on Thursday and were still there as of 7:05 pm, according to our correspondent on the scene.
The government has suspended the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations, scheduled for 21, 23, and 25 July under all education boards due to the worsening law and order situation in the country.
Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee announced in a statement this afternoon.
