The GRYPAS Women Empowerment Celebration 2024 was organized by the Women’s Council Australia Inc. on March 7th, 2024, in Sydney, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The event was hosted by Hema Joarder as the MC, and it commenced with a Quran recitation by Master Shayaan Yasar Zaman. The Self-Defense-Stay Safe Australia show, led by Chris Futcher-Coles, was also featured.
During the event, six crests were presented to successful women from the Bangladeshi community as a token of appreciation for their years of dedication and hard work towards the greater community. The honorable Scott Farlow MLC, Deputy Mayor Rachelle Harika, Former MP Wendy Lindsay, and Liberal Women’s Council President Berenice Walker delivered valuable speeches and presented the crests to the nominated successful women: Dr. Nahid Sayma, Dr. Rokeya Fakir Keya, Dr. Najmun Nahar, Dr. Lovely Rahman, Dr. Rummana Afreen, and Taslima Rahman Mumu. This kind of recognition will inspire all women to continue their efforts for the community.
The Consul General, Md. Shakhawat Hossain (Consulate General of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Sydney), the Hon. Mark Coure MP (Member for Oatley, Minister for Multiculturalism, Minister for Seniors), and Bilal El-Hayek, Mayor of Canterbury-Bankstown Council, were also present and delivered their valuable speeches. The honorable guests also presented crests to another six nominated successful women from the second generation as a token of appreciation for their success and contributions to the community.
The recipients of the crests were Sarah Ahmed, Easha Lamia Rahman, Dr. Fabihah Siddique, Tasnia Alam Hannan, Tanjim Khan, and Nabila Afrida Srotaswini. Natalia Esdaile-Watts, representing the Hon. David Coleman MP, and Vanessa Gauci JP, CEO of Autism Community Network (CAN), also conveyed their important messages.
Dr. Fabihah Siddique, Nabila Afrida Srotaswini, and Mithu. Shapno presented a song, and all the guests enjoyed a buffet dinner. The Women’s Council Australia Inc. has been organizing this type of event on Women’s Day for the past few years, and it has received appreciation from the community for its initiative and activities.
Approximately 200 individuals from the local and diverse community, including government officials, organizational leaders, business leaders, professionals, and esteemed guests, were present at this event.
