A devastating road accident west of Melbourne has claimed the life of a school-aged child and left six others injured after a single-vehicle rollover on a regional road in Victoria.
Emergency services rushed to the scene near the intersection of Nerowie Road and Parwan-Exford Road in Parwan, southwest of Melton, after receiving reports of a serious crash shortly before 4pm on Sunday.
Victoria Police confirmed that one child died at the scene despite emergency responders’ efforts to save their life. Paramedics performed CPR, but the child could not be revived.
“A second child was airlifted with critical injuries, while five more children were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” police said in a statement. An adult woman involved in the incident was also transported to hospital for observation.
Ambulance Victoria deployed multiple specialist crews to the crash site, including a helicopter ambulance that transported one critically injured child to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Health authorities confirmed that several children were taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital for treatment, while three children were admitted to Sunshine Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. Another adult patient was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The tragic crash has sent shockwaves through the local community as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the rollover. Police have not yet released further details about what may have caused the vehicle to leave the road.
Authorities are expected to continue examining the scene and speaking with witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
