A major South Australia Police operation has led to 70 arrests over 116 alleged domestic violence offences in April, including the case of a 76‑year‑old Barossa Valley man accused of indecently assaulting his wife.

The arrests were part of Operation Storm Days of Action, which targeted 351 alleged offenders and saw officers attend 443 addresses across the state. Acting Deputy Commissioner Philip Newitt said police have investigated 2,470 alleged domestic violence offenders since the operation began in July 2024, resulting in 519 arrests and 131 reports.

Newitt said the proactive strategy involving compliance checks, searches and targeted visits is helping deter repeat offending. The most recent two‑week blitz also included 117 referrals for offenders to access rehabilitation and support services.

Among those arrested was a 76‑year‑old Barossa Valley man, who police say indecently assaulted his wife in breach of an intervention order. He has been placed on home detention and is due to appear in court in June.

In another case, a 29‑year‑old man from the state’s far north was arrested over the alleged assault of his partner. He faces multiple charges, including assault causing harm, three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of breaching an intervention order and assaulting or resisting police. He has been remanded in custody.

Police say the operation underscores their commitment to tackling domestic abuse and ensuring victims receive protection while perpetrators face swift consequences.
