Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan has called on children to follow the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and prepare themselves to become responsible and capable citizens for the future of Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while addressing a seminar titled “50 Years in Children’s Dreams: Achievements, Experiences and Bangladesh of Tomorrow” as the chief guest on Wednesday at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium in Dhaka. The event was organised to mark Children’s Rights Day 2026 and the 50th anniversary of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
Speaking at the programme, Abdul Moyeen Khan said Ziaur Rahman had placed significant importance on the welfare, development, and future of children long before children’s rights became a major issue globally.
According to the minister, Ziaur Rahman recognised the need to nurture children’s talents and untapped potential while preparing them for future leadership roles in society and the nation.
He said the celebration of the Shishu Academy’s golden jubilee had made today’s children part of an important chapter in Bangladesh’s history.
Selima Rahman, chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, attended the event as a special guest.
The keynote paper at the seminar was presented by Chief Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmed, who discussed the achievements of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy over the past five decades and its role in shaping future generations.
The event brought together policymakers, educators, child development experts, and students to reflect on the institution’s contributions and discuss future strategies for promoting children’s rights, education, and overall development in Bangladesh.
