Gas Cylinder Explosion Leaves Family with Burn Injuries in Aftabnagar

A family of five, including three young children, suffered severe burn injuries following a gas cylinder explosion at their home in Aftabnagar, Dhaka, early Friday morning. The incident has shocked the local community and highlights the dangers of household gas mishaps.

The injured family members are Tofazzal Hossain, 45, Munsura Begum, 35, and their children—Tanzila, 11, Mithila, 7, and Tanisha, 4. The explosion occurred around 12:20 a.m., according to Dr. Shaown Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Based on initial reports from the victims, gas had been leaking in the kitchen when the explosion happened. The blast was triggered when a family member lit a cigarette, igniting the accumulated gas and causing a devastating explosion.

Medical officials are currently assessing the extent of the burn injuries after providing initial treatment. The severity of their burns will be determined following further evaluation, and the injured family members are receiving care at the specialized burn unit.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of household safety, especially when handling gas cylinders. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the leak and reinforce safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
