Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday unveiled the ‘July Declaration,’ a significant political document reflecting the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh. During the event, he stated that the nation’s citizens desire a development strategy that is environmentally friendly, climate-resilient, sustainable, and inclusive, ensuring rights for both current and future generations.
Professor Yunus emphasized the importance of recognizing the student-led uprising of 2024 within the constitutional framework. He expressed hopes that this movement will receive proper state and constitutional acknowledgment and that the July Declaration will be incorporated into the revised constitution drafted by the government after the upcoming national elections.
The 28-point declaration was read out by Yunus at 5:21 pm in the presence of representatives from all major political parties, including BNP, Jamaat, and the National Citizen Party. The event took place at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, beginning with the national anthem and a screening of a documentary video.
The declaration, finalized by the interim government, aims to embody the collective aspirations of the Bangladeshi people, especially in light of the victory in the mass uprising of August 5, 2024.
Later in the day, the Chief Adviser is scheduled to address the nation at 8:20 pm in a televised speech commemorating July Mass Uprising Day. The speech will be broadcast simultaneously on Bangladesh Television, BTV News, and Bangladesh Betar.
