Hridoy’s Fifty Highlights Bangladesh Fightback Before West Indies Strike Back

2 min read

Bangladesh’s middle order showed resistance through a valuable partnership between Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim, but regular breakthroughs from the West Indies kept the hosts under pressure during the Test match.

After losing early wickets, Hridoy and Mushfiqur combined for a crucial 78-run fourth-wicket partnership, helping Bangladesh stabilize their innings and rebuild momentum.

The stand was eventually broken by left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, who dismissed Mushfiqur for 34 runs. Attempting to drive a flighted delivery, Mushfiqur found Brandon King at short cover, where a sharp diving catch ended his innings. Bangladesh slipped to 129 for 4.

Hridoy continued to anchor the innings and reached his maiden Test half-century from 109 balls, marking an important milestone in his international career.

However, the West Indies quickly regained control. Warrican struck again when Liton Das was dismissed for 8, driving another delivery straight to Brandon King at cover. Bangladesh’s score moved to 141 for 5.

The collapse continued despite a brief contribution from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored 16 runs from 30 balls. Mehidy attempted a paddle sweep against Roston Chase, only to edge the ball to Justin Greaves at first slip, who completed an excellent diving catch.

With Mehidy’s dismissal, Bangladesh were reduced to 179 for 6, leaving Hridoy with the task of guiding the lower order and helping the hosts post a competitive first-innings total.

The disciplined bowling effort from Warrican and Chase, combined with athletic fielding from Brandon King and Justin Greaves, ensured the West Indies maintained control despite Hridoy’s determined resistance.
