US Launches Limited Strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island After Alleged Attack on Military Aircraft

The United States has carried out military strikes on Qeshm Island, a strategically important island located in the Strait of Hormuz, according to US officials.

Officials familiar with the operation said the strikes were limited in scope and were launched in response to an incident in which Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) allegedly fired upon a US military aircraft.

Iranian state news agency IRNA reported that several explosions were heard on Qeshm Island on Monday, although details regarding the extent of the damage were not immediately available.

The development marks another escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran amid an already volatile regional security environment.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American military operations in the Middle East, had not publicly commented on the reports at the time of publication.

The strikes come at a politically sensitive moment in the United States, just days before the country’s midterm elections. President Donald Trump has been facing increasing pressure both from opposition figures and members of his own party regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The conflict began earlier this year following joint US and Israeli military operations targeting Iran. Since then, the confrontation has expanded into a broader regional crisis involving military strikes, economic sanctions, and growing security concerns across the Middle East.

Earlier on Monday, Trump signaled that he was not seeking an immediate escalation of military action against Iran.

“One way or the other, we will do something, but there is no rush. We crippled them financially,” Trump told Axios.

“They have no money, no gasoline and their people are getting very tired of it.”

Qeshm Island occupies a strategically significant position near one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes, making any military activity in the area closely watched by international markets and regional powers.

Analysts warn that further escalation could have broader implications for regional stability, global energy supplies, and international security as tensions between the two countries continue to unfold.
