Bangladesh have been handed a challenging assignment in the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup after being drawn in Group B alongside England, co-hosts South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and one qualifying team.
The draw, held in Cape Town on Thursday, placed Bangladesh among several of the tournament’s strongest sides, setting up a demanding path to the knockout stages. The 14-team competition will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia from 2 October to 21 November 2027.
Group A consists of India, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and another qualifier, promising several high-profile clashes during the tournament’s opening phase.
Before the main event begins, a three-team Super Series will be played in Windhoek featuring the lowest-seeded qualifying nations. Each team will face the others once, with the top-performing side advancing to complete the 12-team group stage lineup.
The group stage will feature two groups of six teams competing in a round-robin format. Bangladesh will begin their World Cup campaign against England in Windhoek on 8 October before heading to South Africa for crucial fixtures against New Zealand in KuGompo City on 12 October and Sri Lanka in Durban on 16 October.
Teams will battle for places in the Super 7 stage, where the top three teams from each group, along with the best fourth-placed side overall, will progress. The seven qualifying teams will then play 21 round-robin matches, with the top four advancing to the semi-finals.
According to the tournament format, the team finishing first in the Super 7 standings will face the fourth-placed side in one semi-final, while the second- and third-ranked teams will meet in the other last-four encounter.
The winners of those matches will advance to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final, scheduled to be held in Johannesburg on 21 November.
Bangladesh will be aiming to navigate one of the competition’s toughest groups and secure a place in the Super 7 stage as they chase a deep run in cricket’s biggest tournament.
