Journalist Zulkarnain Saer has alleged that a recent attack on New Gini Properties at ECB Chattar in Dhaka was linked to a longstanding dispute involving land ownership, plot boundaries, and road access.
In a Facebook post published early Monday, Saer claimed that around 150 to 200 individuals carried out an armed attack on the property on Saturday night. According to his account, the group allegedly vandalised a studio, several vehicles, and other structures located on the premises.
Saer said the incident was not specifically aimed at a particular business or individual. Instead, he alleged that the violence stemmed from an ongoing dispute between New Gini Properties owner Nazim Uddin Bhuiyan Arzu and Major General (retd) Golam Mohammad Mohiuddin over a 35-katha plot of land and the use of an access road.
According to the journalist, the group arrived at the site in four trucks with the intention of taking control of the disputed property. He further claimed that some individuals involved were armed and that multiple rounds of gunfire were reportedly fired during the incident.
Saer also alleged that a person associated with the Shahadat Group in Mirpur had threatened Nazim Uddin over road access issues several days before the attack. He further claimed that another individual identified as Sohel, whom he described as being linked to the group, later issued threats on behalf of Mohiuddin and Matiur Rahman, the owner of Chhayaneer Apartment.
The journalist additionally alleged that the attackers became more aggressive after learning that the owner of the damaged studio was related by marriage to a relative of a known criminal figure known as Sweden Aslam.
In the same post, Saer made separate allegations against both Nazim Uddin and Mohiuddin regarding land transactions and alleged land occupation activities. He said his assertions were based on documents he had reviewed.
The post also claimed that Nazim Uddin had been a member of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Cantonment unit in 2010 and was previously involved in the glass and scrap trading business. Saer alleged that during that period, he developed close ties with Haji Abbas, described as a local political figure and former organisational secretary of the Awami League’s Cantonment unit.
The allegations made in the Facebook post have not been independently verified, and no public responses from the individuals named in the claims were available at the time of reporting.
Authorities have not yet announced the outcome of any investigation into the attack, and the matter remains under review.
