Romania’s military is still working to determine the origin and intent of a drone shot down over its airspace on Friday, but early observations suggest it resembled a Shahed‑type unmanned aircraft. Army Chief of Staff Gheorghita Vlad told reporters that fighter‑jet pilots visually identified the drone as similar to the Iranian‑designed Shahed model, though he stressed it was too early to draw conclusions.
The incident adds to growing regional concerns as Shahed drones have been widely used in conflicts across Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Romanian authorities are continuing their investigation to establish where the drone came from and why it entered national airspace.
