A 15‑year‑old boy is set to face court today after an alleged stabbing at Trinity Bay State High School in Manunda, Far North Queensland, left another teenager in hospital. Police were called to the school just before midday on Monday following reports that a 15‑year‑old student had suffered an abdominal wound during a physical altercation. Officers say the alleged offender also 15 fled the scene on foot but was arrested shortly afterwards in the nearby suburb of Kanimbla.
The injured boy remains in Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.
Police confirmed the arrested teenager was charged this morning with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm. He was refused bail and is expected to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court today. Investigators believe the two boys were known to each other.
School principal Tony Whybird and Queensland’s education department said staff and families were being supported but declined further comment due to the ongoing police investigation.
The incident has left the school community shaken as authorities work to determine what led to the violent confrontation.
