A male educator in the Greater Darwin region has been charged after allegedly indecently touching a child under the age of 16 during a school‑run vacation care program, Northern Territory Police confirmed on Friday.

Police allege the incident occurred on Wednesday at a vacation care service operating within a local school. The 40‑year‑old man was arrested two days later and has been charged with indecent touching or act with a child under 16 and grooming to engage in sexual activity.

NT Police Acting Commander Kirk Pennuto said the Child Abuse Taskforce is continuing its investigation, including examining whether any further alleged offending may be linked to the man.

Authorities have notified SAFE NT regarding the man’s OCHRE Card, which is required for people working with children in the Northern Territory. It is understood the educator has been stood down from his employment while inquiries continue.

The man was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in the Darwin Local Court on Monday.
