Australia Launches $10 Billion Plan to Strengthen National Fuel Security

1 min read

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a major fuel security package aimed at boosting Australia’s reserves and protecting the country against global supply disruptions. The initiative represents one of the largest national fuel investments in recent years.

According to the Prime Minister, the package will deliver more than $10 billion to reinforce Australia’s near‑term fuel and fertiliser security. A key feature of the plan is the creation of a permanent, government‑owned fuel reserve of around one billion litres a move designed to safeguard supply during international volatility.

Mr Albanese said the investment will help expand Australia’s onshore fuel storage to ensure the country maintains at least 50 days of supply. He described the package as a strategic step to strengthen national resilience and reduce vulnerability to global market shocks.

The announcement comes amid heightened concerns about supply chains, energy stability and the need for stronger domestic reserves. The government says the new measures will provide long‑term certainty for industries, transport networks and essential services that rely heavily on consistent fuel access.
