FIFA Faces Backlash Over Sky‑High World Cup Ticket Prices, Infantino Defends Decision

1 min read

FIFA is under mounting criticism as fans around the world react angrily to the soaring ticket prices for the upcoming World Cup, set to take place from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Mexico and Canada. Supporters say the prices are “shameful,” especially as travel restrictions in the US have already made it difficult for some nations’ fans to attend.

Despite the backlash, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has doubled down, insisting the price hikes were financially necessary. According to FIFA, the costs of hosting the tournament including infrastructure, logistics and security required a revised pricing structure.

The organisation had earlier released three ticket categories, but criticism intensified after the introduction of dynamic pricing, which means ticket costs vary depending on the match and venue. As a result, many games have become even more expensive. In the latest update, front‑row gallery seats were listed at USD 4,105 more than five lakh Bangladeshi taka.

While frustration continues to grow among fans, FIFA remains firm. Infantino’s latest remarks make it clear there are no plans to reduce prices, keeping the debate very much alive as the tournament approaches.
