Jessica Biel is going viral but not for a reason she’s celebrating. A parenting trend nicknamed the “Jessica Tantrum,” which uses her name as a cue to stop toddlers mid‑meltdown, has exploded across social media. But the actor says she’s uncomfortable with how the trend is being used and has issued a gentle plea to parents.
On April 10, Biel posted a video addressing the craze, explaining that while she once joked about using the phrase on her pets, she never intended for it to be applied to young children. After watching clips online, she said many of the kids “look petrified,” prompting her to speak out.
“Guys, I’m not really sure how I feel about this Jessica trend with moms and toddlers and now dogs, apparently,” she said. “I’m gonna try it on my dogs. But I feel like half the kids in these videos look petrified.”
She captioned the post: “On behalf of all Jessicas, we are nice people.”
Biel added that she appreciates the humour and the creativity behind the trend, but worries about how children are reacting. “I really love if I can come into your household with my name that I share with so many other incredible Jessicas around the world and help you with your kids’ tantrum,” she said. “But I sort of feel like these kids are terrified.”
Her message has sparked a wider conversation about viral parenting hacks and whether social media trends should ever come at the expense of a child’s comfort.
