The question “How can an EPZ be established in Kasba-Akhaura?” may seem natural but this is where Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan stands out. While many hesitate to turn big promises into action, his initiative around establishing an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) has already generated significant excitement in the region.
The proposed EPZ would be located in Tinlakhpir, under Binauti Union of Kasba Upazila. The site sits beside the Brahmanbaria-Chattogram highway and is close to both the Akhaura railway junction and the Akhaura land port, making it a strategically ideal location for industrial development.
A letter signed by Md Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Investment Development) of BEPZA, confirms that the proposal has been accepted and that necessary steps will be taken according to regulations. The letter was also sent to district BNP member Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, who shared it with journalists.
EPZs or Export Processing Zones are duty‑free industrial areas offering special facilities for export‑oriented manufacturing, processing and assembly. Their core objectives include attracting foreign investment, boosting exports and creating new employment opportunities.
Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan believes the project could transform the economic landscape of the Kasba-Akhaura region.
“If implemented, this EPZ will change the overall economic picture here. It will also create major opportunities for skilled expatriate workers. I hope the government moves quickly to make it a reality,” he said.
The government’s green signal has already sparked discussions about new business ventures and potential industrialization. For locals long deprived of employment opportunities, the EPZ feels like a long‑awaited ray of hope.
Residents say the EPZ would bring:
New jobs
Growth in business and transport sectors
A stronger local economy
A new chapter of development for an overlooked region
The initiative led by BNP leader and businessman Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan is now signalling a positive shift for Kasba-Akhaura. After years of neglect, the region’s prospects for industrialisation are finally beginning to take shape.
