France has welcomed a new ceasefire between the Syrian government and Kurdish led forces, calling it an important step toward easing tensions in the country’s north and east. The announcement came after Syrian troops advanced into several Kurdish controlled areas.
In a statement, the foreign ministry said it supports the agreement and emphasized France’s commitment to Syria’s unity and territorial integrity. The ministry also reaffirmed France’s loyalty to the Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces, who played a central role in the fight against Daesh alongside the international coalition.
France urged all parties to uphold the terms of the ceasefire. The deal is expected to revive efforts to integrate the Kurdish administration and the SDF into the Syrian state after months of stalled negotiations.
