Deadly Fire Engulfs Karachi Shopping Centre, Leaving Several Dead and Dozens Injured

A huge fire tore through a multistorey shopping centre in Karachi, killing at least three people and injuring around a dozen others, according to police and rescue officials. The blaze erupted late Saturday night, sending firefighters and emergency crews rushing to Gul Plaza shortly after 10pm.

Gul Plaza, a major wholesale hub known for home decor, clothing, toys and electronics, was nearly closed for the night when the fire broke out. Local reports say most shop owners had already left or were preparing to shut their stores when flames began spreading rapidly.

Shopkeeper Mohammad Ahsan described the terrifying moment the fire started. He said he noticed flames near gate number five and tried to extinguish them, but the blaze quickly grew out of control and swept through the entire building.

Authorities believe the fire intensified after reaching an area where imported garments, clothing and plastic household goods were stored, providing fuel for the flames. The exact cause remains unknown, and police say a full investigation will begin once the fire is completely extinguished.

Rescue worker Danish Khan said teams are still battling the blaze and searching for survivors. “We have recovered three bodies and we are getting information that some people may still be trapped inside,” he said.
