The Election Commission has entered its second day of continuous appeal hearings filed against decisions made by returning officers ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Monday’s session began at 10 am and will continue until 5 pm, with hearings scheduled for appeal numbers 141 to 210. On Tuesday, the Commission will hear appeals numbered 211 to 280.
Candidates from across the country are using the process to challenge returning officers’ decisions and present their arguments directly before the Commission. The appeal hearings are a key part of the pre‑election scrutiny process, allowing candidates to contest rejected or accepted nomination papers.
On Saturday, during the first day of hearings, appeals numbered 1 to 70 were resolved. Of these, 51 appeals challenging the rejection of nomination papers were approved. One appeal opposing the acceptance of a nomination paper was also upheld, resulting in the cancellation of the nomination of independent candidate S A K Ekramuzzaman in the Brahmanbaria‑1 constituency.
That same day, 15 appeals were dismissed, while three were kept pending for further review.
