Australia Waits on Pat Cummins Ahead of Second Ashes Test in Brisbane

1 min read

The second Ashes Test between Australia and England is set to begin tomorrow (Thursday) at the Gabba. England announced their playing XI two days before the match, but Australia’s stand-in captain Steve Smith declined to reveal his side during Wednesday’s press conference, saying the team is waiting on the fitness of Pat Cummins.

Australia will confirm their XI later today after inspecting the pitch. Cummins’ inclusion would be a surprise, as he was not named in the 14-man squad announced last Friday. However, he has been seen bowling in the nets in both Perth and Brisbane, and has not been formally ruled out.

Recovering from a stress fracture in his back, Cummins could return not only as a player but also reclaim the captaincy if declared fit. His availability remains the key question as Australia prepares for a crucial clash in the series.
