A tragic mid-air collision occurred on Sunday involving two light aircraft during a formation flight near Sydney, resulting in the death of one pilot.

According to New South Wales Police, one of the planes crashed into bushland close to Wedderburn Airport in the city’s southwest. Emergency crews later recovered the pilot’s body from the wreckage. Authorities believe he was the sole occupant of the aircraft.

The other plane involved in the collision managed to land safely at the airport, with its pilot unharmed.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) confirmed that the incident involved two single-engine, two-seat Vans RV-7 aircraft. Both were part of a four-plane formation returning to Wedderburn Airport when the collision occurred.
