Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was produced before the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Monday morning as the court prepares to deliver its verdict in a case tied to alleged crimes against humanity during the July uprising. He arrived at the tribunal around 8:30 a.m.
The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Golam Martuza Mazumder and joined by Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury, is scheduled to announce its decision later today.
According to case details, the principal accused is deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted from power and is currently reported to be in India. The other accused are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former IGP Al-Mamun. Both Hasina and Khan have been declared absconders.
The tribunal reserved its judgment on 23 October after hearing arguments from both sides. The prosecution demanded the maximum penalty death sentences for Hasina and Khan along with confiscation of their properties. In contrast, state-appointed defense counsel Md. Amir Hossain argued for full acquittal of the accused.
The verdict, officially scheduled for 17 November, is expected to be announced later today, marking a pivotal moment in one of Bangladesh’s most politically sensitive trials.
