NDA Secures Landslide Victory in Bihar Assembly Elections, Opposition Suffers Heavy Defeat

2 min read

Vote counting for the Bihar Assembly elections began at 8 a.m. local time on Friday, with the Election Commission releasing the final results later that night. The contest was primarily between the NDA alliance, led by the BJP and Janata Dal (United), and the opposition Grand Alliance, spearheaded by the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The results showed a decisive win for the NDA, which captured 202 out of 242 seats in the assembly. In contrast, candidates from the opposition Grand Alliance managed to secure only 35 seats, marking a significant setback.

Within the NDA, the BJP emerged as the largest partner, winning 89 seats, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) claimed 85 seats. Other allies also contributed to the victory: Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party won 19 seats, and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha secured 5 seats.

One of the most talked-about factors in this election was strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party, which was expected to play a key role. However, the party failed to win a single seat, suffering a complete collapse. On the other hand, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, emerged as the surprise “dark horse,” winning 5 seats in Bihar.

The sweeping victory consolidates the NDA’s dominance in Bihar politics, while the opposition faces the challenge of regrouping after a crushing defeat.
