The Reds fell behind early when Rasmus Kristensen struck in the 26th minute after latching onto a Mario Götze pass and finishing with a low angled shot. But Liverpool responded quickly. Just nine minutes later, Hugo Ekitike equalised, racing onto an Andy Robertson through ball and calmly slotting past the goalkeeper.
From that moment, Arne Slot’s side took full control. Before halftime, Liverpool turned the game on its head with two powerful headers from corners. Virgil van Dijk rose highest to make it 2–1, and minutes later Ibrahima Konaté extended the lead to 3-1.
In the second half, the visitors showed no mercy. Cody Gakpo added a fourth with a composed finish, before Dominik Szoboszlai sealed the rout with a fifth goal. Both second-half strikes were set up by Florian Wirtz, who delivered a standout performance on his return to Germany.
Liverpool’s dominance was reflected in the numbers. They enjoyed 64 percent possession, fired 17 shots with 14 on target, and forced Frankfurt to defend deep for much of the match. The German side, despite their early lead, struggled to cope with Liverpool’s relentless pressing and aerial strength.
The emphatic win lifted Liverpool to six points from three matches, placing them 10th in the overall league-phase table. For Slot, it was a much-needed statement victory after a string of disappointing results, and it showcased the attacking depth of a squad that had been under pressure.
Elsewhere on Matchday 3, goals flowed across Europe. Tuesday’s nine fixtures produced 43 goals, while Wednesday’s nine matches added another 28 goals, with clubs like Chelsea and Bayern Munich also enjoying big wins.
Liverpool’s performance in Frankfurt not only reignited their Champions League campaign but also reminded rivals of their ability to overwhelm opponents when their attack clicks into gear.
