Tight Security in Place for Dhaka University Student Elections

2 min read

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has rolled out an extensive security plan to ensure the smooth conduct of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall council elections, as well as to maintain maximum safety on campus.

According to the plan, a total of 2,096 police personnel will be deployed on election day. They will be supported by dog squads, SWAT teams, specialized units, plainclothes detectives, bomb disposal experts, a CCTV monitoring cell, and striking reserve forces. Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will also join the operation in plain clothes.

DMP officials said that over the past week, various security measures have been implemented, including the establishment of eight checkpoints across the university area. Security will be reinforced at polling centers, with mobile patrols and specialized teams maintaining a constant presence. The details were shared at a press briefing on Monday evening at the temporary police control room near the university’s TSC.

In a separate move, Dhaka University authorities have announced that all entry points to the campus will be closed to the general public from 8 p.m. tonight until 6 p.m. on September 10. The restriction will be enforced at Shahbagh, Palashi, Doel Chattar, Shibbari Crossing, Fuller Road, Udayan School, and Nilkhet entrances.
