More than 3,000 individuals are implicated in four cases filed over vandalism, arson, and attacks on police during the protests surrounding the NCP rally on July 16 in Gopalganj. Over the past two days, police have lodged these cases with the Sadar, Kashiani, and Kotalipara police stations.
Law enforcement also reported the arrest of 306 people in district-wide drives since July 16, with 119 apprehended in the last 24 hours alone, as of Saturday noon.
The most recent case was filed late Friday night. Sub-Inspector Shamim Al Mamun registered a case at Sadar police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, naming 54 individuals and mentioning 350 others unknown, in connection with torching a police vehicle and obstructing traffic in the Satpar area.
Violence erupted on July 16, resulting in four deaths and dozens of injuries amid clashes between Awami League-Chhatra League supporters and police over the rally. Another person injured during the violence died on July 18 while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
