Rescue Efforts Continue as Floods in Texas Kill 50 and Leave 27 Girls Missing from Summer Camp

Rescuers are searching Saturday for 27 girls who remain unaccounted for after devastating floods swept through central Texas, following relentless torrential rains that have claimed at least 50 lives across the state.

Massive flash floods prompted multiple warnings, as water surged through communities, with the Guadalupe River rising an astonishing 26 feet (eight meters) in just 45 minutes. The Kerr County summer camp, where hundreds of children and adults had gathered, was left in chaos, with belongings like blankets and teddy bears covered in mud.

Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha confirmed that authorities have recovered 43 bodies in the region 28 adults and 15 children highlighting the tragic toll of the disaster. The death toll has risen as victims have been found in other counties, bringing the total fatalities to 50.

Texas Department of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd said search crews using air, land, and water resources are working tirelessly along the Guadalupe River to find both survivors and additional victims. “We will continue the search until all those who are missing are found,” he assured.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced plans to expand the state’s disaster declaration and is requesting additional federal aid from President Donald Trump to aid in relief efforts.

The floods began on Friday, coinciding with the start of the Fourth of July holiday weekend, as days’ worth of rain fell within a few hours, causing widespread destruction and chaos across the region.
