At least 43 people, among them 15 children, have been confirmed dead following severe flash floods in central Texas, authorities announced Saturday. Rescuers are still desperately searching for campers, residents, and vacationers reported missing across the affected counties.
Officials believe the death toll may be higher, as flooding has impacted multiple counties in the region. Travis County Public Information Officer Hector Nieto confirmed four fatalities in his area, with 13 others still unaccounted for.
More than 850 people have been rescued so far, some of whom were found clinging to trees amid the sudden storm. The flooding was caused by up to 15 inches of rain dumped over the Guadalupe River area, located about 85 miles northwest of San Antonio. Rescue efforts continue as crews work tirelessly to locate and assist those still missing.
