Oscar Piastri to Start Third in Austrian Grand Prix with Championship Lead

1 min read

Australian driver Oscar Piastri will begin Sunday night’s Austrian Grand Prix from third on the grid, holding a 22-point lead over his McLaren teammate Lando Norris in the drivers’ standings. Norris secured pole position after delivering a stunning qualifying performance, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc lining up alongside him on the front row.

Piastri, aiming for his sixth victory of the season, recently shared his thoughts ahead of the race during a trackside interview. “I think we can go forward today,” he said. “It’s going to be a tough race; it’s much hotter than yesterday, and I hope that works in our favor. The track is good for overtaking, so that’s what I plan to do.”

The reigning championship leader will start next to Lewis Hamilton, with Norris on pole and Leclerc in second. Piastri acknowledged Ferrari’s potential threat, saying, “They’ve looked strong in past races, and their qualifying was better than usual today. I believe our car has been very competitive this weekend, and I don’t expect that to change today.”
