Melbourne’s Albert Park will host the opening race of the 2026 Formula 1 season, marking the start of a bold new chapter for the sport. The Australian Grand Prix has been confirmed as the first race of the year, set to take place from Thursday, March 5 to Sunday, March 8.

The 2026 season promises significant changes, with F1 undergoing a major overhaul. Notably, Cadillac will join as the sport’s 11th team, bringing fresh competition. Additionally, Audi will make its debut, taking over Sauber at the end of 2025, signaling a continued push toward electrifying the sport and expanding its global appeal.

Melbourne’s Albert Park circuit made history during the 2025 season opener, drawing an estimated 465,498 fans over the weekend a new record for the venue. The upcoming 2026 race is expected to be just as popular, with Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Travis Auld emphasizing the excitement surrounding the event. “The Formula 1 calendar announcement is always an exciting moment, and in the coming weeks, we will be sharing on-sale dates for tickets,” he said. “There is something special about being the first race of the season, and we’re looking forward to sharing that with hundreds of thousands of fans once again in 2026.”

F1 revealed its full 24-race calendar on Tuesday, with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix scheduled as the season finale on December 6. Notably, Madrid will join the calendar as the newest circuit, while Italy’s famed Imola circuit, home of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, has been removed.

With a fresh look and new teams, the 2026 F1 season promises to be one of the most exciting yet, beginning in Melbourne and capturing the attention of motorsport fans worldwide.
