An extensive search is ongoing for a 19-year-old man who has been missing for more than a day off the mid-west coast of Western Australia. The search covers air, land, and water, involving multiple agencies and community volunteers.

The man was reportedly swimming at Lucky Bay, approximately 500 kilometers north of Perth, shortly after 3 pm on Tuesday. He was bodyboarding with friends at the popular camping spot when weather conditions unexpectedly worsened.

Mid West Gascoyne Police Inspector Colin Keen confirmed that dozens of personnel, including police, marine rescue teams, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the SES, and local community volunteers with vessels, are participating in the search. With weather forecast to deteriorate further into Wednesday evening, authorities are deeply concerned for the young man’s safety.

“It’s a long time to be out in the water with the conditions that we’re confronted with,” Inspector Keen said. “But hopefully a better outcome will come from this, we just have to wait and see.”

He added, “Two boys have made it in and one hasn’t that we know of,” emphasizing the urgency and seriousness of the situation as efforts continue to locate the missing individual.
