Thailand Streamlines Travel for Bangladeshis with New e-Visa Service

2 min read

In a significant move to enhance travel convenience for Bangladeshi citizens, Thailand is set to launch its e-Visa service, simplifying the visa application process. This initiative, announced by the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka, will take effect on January 2, 2025, offering a modern solution for travelers.

Starting December 19, 2024, holders of Bangladeshi official passports will also enjoy exemption from visa requirements, marking a new era of easier access to Thailand.

The e-Visa system allows applicants to complete the entire process online. Travelers can fill out the application form and upload necessary documents at thaievisa.go.th, eliminating the need to submit their passport physically. Once approved, the visa will be sent via email, ready to be printed and presented to Thai immigration upon arrival.

However, due to some technical limitations, direct payment for the visa fee on the e-Visa website is not available for applicants in Bangladesh. After submitting their application, users will receive a “Payment Info Summary” sheet, which contains the application reference number, a QR code, and the visa fee amount. Travelers are required to transfer the payment to the Thai Embassy’s bank account through combank.net.bd/thaievisa and then upload the “Payment Info Summary” sheet for verification. It’s important to note that cash payments at the bank will not be accepted.

The processing time for the e-Visa is typically within 10 working days, providing a streamlined experience for those planning their journeys. Comprehensive instructions for applying for the Thai e-Visa are available on the official website.

In preparation for this new system, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka will cease accepting applications through the four visa application centers starting December 24, 2024. This transition marks a significant step towards making travel to Thailand more accessible and efficient for Bangladeshi nationals.
