On December 8, 2023, the Dhaka University Alumni Association in Australia celebrated the 53rd Victory Day at the Blacktown H.E. Leabatt Sports Stadium in Sydney. This day marked a pivotal moment in Bengali history, commemorating the ultimate triumph of the Liberation War, which led to Bangladesh’s independence on December 16.
The sight of alumni clads in red and green attire, adorned with the national flag, transformed the venue into a piece of Bangladesh on foreign soil. The event began with welcoming remarks from General Secretary Lincoln Shafiqullah and Executive Committee member Zahid Mahmud. The formalities kicked off with the national anthems of Bangladesh and Australia sung in unison.
Association President Kamrul Mannan Akash invited everyone to observe a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs of the Liberation War. He highlighted significant insights about the war and expressed gratitude to all committee members for their tireless efforts in organizing the event. Special thanks were given to Arjun Singh and Sajid Mannan Pratyay, the president and vice-president of Blacktown Workers Senior Cricket Club, for providing the venue.

Following a communal lunch, the alumni engaged in a friendly cricket match to celebrate Victory Day. Under the coordination of Bishwajit, teams in red and green competed fiercely. After an exciting game, awards were presented to both the winners and runners-up by the committee members.
The event’s logistics were expertly managed by Event Management Secretary Rafiq Uddin, with support from his team.
