Over the past week, three expatriates from Jessore have tragically passed away in Penang, Malaysia. Two of the deaths were due to heart attacks, while one was the result of a road accident.
Among the deceased is Mahidul Islam, 45, son of Abu Dawood from Tajpur village in the Harirampur union of Jessore’s Monirampur upazila. He suffered a heart attack while working at a construction site last Sunday, November 10, with coworkers confirming the news of his death.
The second victim, Abdul Majid, also 45, hails from Jhapa village in the same upazila. He succumbed to a heart attack in his sleep on Monday night, November 11. Majid, son of the late Monir Uddin, had moved to Malaysia for work five to seven years ago and was employed at a construction site in Penang. After finishing dinner, he went to bed, and when his colleagues called for him the next morning, they found him unresponsive. Local authorities later confirmed the death and sent his body to the morgue, where it currently remains.
Additionally, another expat, Mintu Hossain, 45, died following a road accident. He passed away on Thursday, November 14, at a government hospital in Malaysia after being hospitalized for injuries sustained in the crash. Local council member Khaledur Rahman Tito confirmed the details of his death.
Mintu, the son of Amin Uddin Sardar from Hanua village in Monirampur, had moved to Malaysia nearly a decade ago for better opportunities. He was critically injured in a road accident on his way to work in early November and had been in the hospital since then.
The untimely deaths of these three remittance workers have cast a pall of grief over their families, who are now awaiting the return of their loved ones’ bodies. Legal processes are currently underway to repatriate the remains to Bangladesh.
