BPL: Comilla in final

2 min read

Although Rangpur Riders were the table toppers in the group stage, Comilla Victorians had ignored the star-studded riders in the first qualifier. Rangpur flew away with the bat of Tawhid Hriday-Liton Das. The defending champions booked their ticket to the final with an 8-wicket win. On the other hand, there is a second chance for Rangpur. They will face Fortune Barisal in the second qualifier.

Rangpur lost the toss in the first qualifier at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla Stadium on Monday (February 26) and went into bat first, losing 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and scoring 185 runs. Neesham scored the highest unbeaten 97 runs for the team. In response, Comilla lost 4 wickets in 18 overs and reached the port of victory.

Chasing a big goal, Comilla did not start well at all. Sunil Narine returned to Sajghar on the first ball of the innings. Fazal Haque batted without understanding the length of Farooqui’s ball and was caught behind the wicket as a top edge. The Caribbean opener took a golden duck with Sohan’s brilliant catch.

Despite losing the wicket on the first ball of the innings, Tawhid Hriday handled the blow with Liton Das in the second wicket pair. Hridyo was aggressive from the start at the other end even though Lytton played a little look-and-hear.

Hridoy scored a personal fifty in 31 balls. In the end, this top order batsman scored 64 runs off 43 balls to break the second wicket stand of 143 runs. By that time, however, the control of the match was completely in the hands of Comilla.
