Bengali children in Toronto have created Bangladesh and the great language movement with cotton and colored pencils. Bengali Information and Employment Services (BIES) organized Chitrankan on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on Sunday (February 25) local time in Canada.
30 child painters participated in the event held at the Red-Hot Tandoori Auditorium in Toronto’s Bengali-dominated Danforth. The event was attended by local public representatives, journalists, and community leaders.
Organized for the 11th time by BIES, the theme of this year’s painting was – My Country, My Language. When the children pick up the colors, the Shaheed Minar, slogans of Bengalis demanding blood, language, processions, etc. emerge. A total of 20 contestants in both categories were awarded with a certificate and $500 prize money in this competition, organized in two categories between the ages of six to fifteen years and all the other participants were awarded with certificates. York University student Labiba Rahman Sarara and Toronto Metropolitan University Umaima Mehbooba were among the judges in the competition.
MPP Dolly Begum, MPP Mary Margaret, Toronto City Councilor Brad Bradford, journalist Shawgat Ali Sagar, media personality Asma Ahmed and others came to watch the program organized by BIES on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. A large number of people from different classes and professions of the society were present at the award distribution and discussion meeting.
