Acting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has stated that the party has taken a strong stand on this issue and would not allow a few misguided members to damage the party’s reputation.
“The BNP has won the confidence and trust of the public in return for the sacrifices made by thousands of its leaders and activists, Khaleda Zia, and the slain President Zia. During a Tuesday view-exchange event with the grassroots leaders of the Chattogram and Khulna divisions, he declared, “It won’t allow a few bad people to ruin its position.”
He joined the program virtually from London.
“The party is uncompromising on this matter (protecting its image), no matter how influential the misguided person is in the party. Recently, the BNP has proved it in Chattogram and Mymensingh (by taking organizational actions against misdeeds of a few leaders of the party),” Tarique said.
Addressing the party men, he said it is not the time to be satisfied yet as the party is still away from power like it was during the past 17 years.
Tarique expressed his hope that if the grassroot leaders and activists realize the language of the people to fulfil their expectations and achieve their love, then the party can present a new, changed and positive Bangladesh to the people. He said the BNP is ready to amend its 31-point state reform proposal which was placed by it and the like-minded political parties two years ago for establishing people’s rights and making a constitutional structure of the country.
He asked the party men to resist the people who exploit the religious doctrines, politicize the religious establishments, make the identity of Bangladesh in the world questionable, and use the division of religion and caste in the politics of Bangladesh for dishonest purposes.
“Some of us go to a mosque, some to a temple or pagoda or church. Some celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr, some Durga Puja or Christmas or Baishakhi Purnima. We have only one identity, we are all Bangladeshis,” the BNP leader said.
