A woman has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following a house fire in Melbourne’s south-east that left her and two children in critical condition. Police arrested and charged a 37-year-old woman from Chadstone in connection with the May 21 blaze at a two-storey house on Terrigal Street, Chadstone.

She is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Emergency services responded to reports of the fire around 9:40 pm. Firefighters forced entry into the home and rescued the woman and two girls, aged eight and 10, who were in a critical state. The trio was taken to hospital for urgent treatment. A fourth occupant, a 36-year-old man, was not inside the house at the time of the fire.

Detective Inspector Chris Murray from the Arson and Explosives Squad stated that a gas cylinder exploded inside the home during the incident.
