Winter Warm-Up: Australia Braces for Unseasonably High Temperatures

1 min read

As winter approaches, Australians can expect a dramatic shift in temperatures, with forecasts predicting an increase of approximately 2°C compared to the early 20th century. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) signals a notably warm winter ahead, aligning with predictions from the esteemed European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), renowned for its precision in weather modeling.

According to the ECMWF, much of Australia is set to experience winter temperatures ranging from 0.5°C to 1°C above the 1993-2016 average. This translates to a warming of about 1°C to 1.5°C over BOM’s historical baseline.

Remarkably, the last time Australia’s national average winter temperatures dipped below the long-term norm was in 2012. As we brace for this upcoming season, the warmth promises to reshape our winter experience once again.
