West Indies Fast Bowlers Boost Confidence After Dismissing Australia for 286 on Rain-Interrupted Day One

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expressed confidence in his fast-bowling unit after another impressive performance with the ball saw them dismiss Australia for 286 on the opening day of the second Test at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada.

The effort marked the third time in this series that the West Indies pace attack has bowled out the top-ranked Test team for a modest total, keeping the contest evenly poised as play concluded. Despite Australia’s late resistance, Sammy was pleased with the overall position of the match, noting that the hosts had a solid start despite periods where the visitors looked threatening.

“If you start the day with the opposition winning the toss and batting, and you restrict them to 280, you would take that,” Sammy said at stumps.

He reflected on the series, saying, “We have played three innings against the No 1 team in the world, and we’ve got them 30 wickets, probably 37 if you count all the dropped catches. After lunch, Australia had patches where they looked to get away from us, but the session after that, when we took five wickets, kind of made up for it.”

Australia’s top scorer, all-rounder Beau Webster, acknowledged the tough batting conditions and emphasized the opportunities the bowlers had as the match developed. The game remains finely balanced heading into Day 2, with both sides eyeing crucial breakthroughs.
