Indian batsman Virat Kohli scored a record 50th One Day International century to take India to 4-397 against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. New Zealand need their all-time and most successful run in the history of the tournament in ODIs to reach the final.
Kohli went past Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar for two to get off the bowling of Lockie Ferguson and punched the air as he raced down the bowling lane before falling to greet the adoring home crowd.
Tendulkar, who was in the audience, raised his hands above his head and clapped for his former teammate.
The pair later hugged and Kohli said it was a special moment.
Kohli had earlier battled some hamstring tightness but with his century made he looked to up the run rate before being caught in the deep by Devon Conway off the bowling of Tim Southee for 117.
Even when Kohli was dismissed India were not deterred as Shreyas Iyir reached his century (105) off just 67 deliveries as he and KL Rahul often cleared the rope to take the host nation to their mammoth total.
Iyir eventually mistimed a slog off the bowling of Trent Boult to be caught in the deep.
For New Zealand it was a tough day in the field for quicks Southee (3-100) and Boult (1-86).
