Violent Clashes Erupt at Dutch Anti‑Immigration Rally

1 min read

A major anti‑immigration protest in The Hague turned violent on Saturday, leaving the city center in chaos. Police said around 1,500 demonstrators gathered to oppose government migration policies. The rally began peacefully but escalated when protesters threw bottles, stones, and fireworks at officers.

Authorities deployed water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd, while one police vehicle was set on fire. Several arrests were made, though officials have not yet confirmed the total number.

The Dutch government condemned the violence, stressing that while peaceful protest is a democratic right, attacks on law enforcement and public property will not be tolerated. The unrest comes amid rising political tensions in the Netherlands over asylum and migration policy.
