Vinicius Jr delivered a dazzling performance with two goals from the penalty spot as Real Madrid stormed to a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday, a win that sent them provisionally to the top of LaLiga. The result lifted Real to 60 points, two ahead of Barcelona, who still have a game in hand ahead of their derby against Girona on Monday.
Madrid wasted no time asserting control. Just five minutes in, 21‑year‑old Gonzalo García starting in place of the rested Kylian Mbappé expertly guided a Trent Alexander‑Arnold cross into the bottom corner past Alex Remiro. But the visitors hit back in the 21st minute when Dean Huijsen fouled Yangel Herrera, allowing Mikel Oyarzabal to level from the spot.
Parity didn’t last long. Four minutes later, Jon Aramburu clipped Vinicius inside the box, and the Brazilian coolly sent Remiro the wrong way to restore Madrid’s lead. Federico Valverde then added a stunning third in the 31st minute, curling a precise finish into the top corner after a clever run into the area.
Real returned from the break with the same intensity. Just three minutes into the second half, Vinicius nutmegged Aramburu on a blistering counterattack before being brought down again. He stepped up and buried his second penalty of the night, tucking it just inside the left post to make it 4-1 and seal Madrid’s eighth straight league win.
“We are happy because we made a great match,” captain Valverde told Real Madrid TV. “It was a near flawless performance we could have scored even more, but the important thing is that we’ve won in decisive fashion.”
Madrid nearly added a fifth in the 70th minute when Gonzalo raced through and nudged the ball past Remiro, only for Jon Martín to throw himself in front of the goal and block the effort.
With their title charge gathering momentum, Real Madrid look increasingly ruthless and with Vinicius in this kind of form, they remain the team to beat.
