Victoria’s New Liberal Leader Jess Wilson Retains Shadow Treasurer Role in Reshuffle

Newly appointed Victorian Liberal leader Jess Wilson has confirmed she will also continue as shadow treasurer, unveiling a reshuffled team that includes two former opposition leaders.

Wilson, a first-term MP and the first female leader of the Coalition, announced the changes less than two weeks after succeeding Brad Battin as party leader.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to be the shadow treasurer, because getting the books under control is the most important thing we can do as an alternative government and then as a good government in the coming years,” Wilson told reporters.

When asked why she chose to juggle both roles rather than appoint a dedicated shadow treasurer, Wilson replied: “Because I know I’m the best person to take this forward.”

Former leaders Brad Battin and Matthew Guy will remain prominent in the line-up Wilson intends to take to the 2026 state election. Battin will serve as shadow minister for police and corrections, while Guy will take on the role of shadow minister for public transport and ports and freight.
