In a landmark ruling in Avignon, France, Dominique Pellicot has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for drugging his wife and facilitating her rape by other men. This tragic case of abuse, spanning nearly a decade, has led to the conviction of 50 additional individuals with varying sentences.
The 72-year-old Dominique was found guilty and received the maximum penalty, shedding tears in court as the verdict was announced. In contrast, his wife, Ghyslaine Pellicot, and their children remained stoic.
According to the charges, Dominique would sedate his wife with sleeping pills, allowing other men to assault her—a horrific crime repeated 92 times by 72 different men, coordinated online.
During the trial, Ghyslaine waived her right to anonymity to ensure the world understood the horrors she endured. She described the legal process as an “ordeal” but never regretted her decision to keep it public.
Jean-Pierre Maréchal, another individual involved, received a 12-year sentence for taking inappropriate photographs of Dominique’s daughter and daughter-in-law.
This verdict has sent shockwaves through France and beyond, delivering a powerful message that there is no place for inhumanity, and justice will prevail.
