US Officials Break Silence on Gaza, Condemn Lack of Political Response

Two American officials sharply criticized the silence of US political leaders over Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing them as genocide and warning that public anger is growing.

California Congressman Ro Khanna and Michigan Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II delivered their remarks at a convention in Dearborn on Saturday, urging Washington to confront what they called a moral and political failure.

Khanna said an increasing number of Democrats and even some Republicans are breaking from their parties’ traditional support for Israel. “How can you be a Democrat in Congress and not believe it’s time for the US to recognize Palestinian aspirations,” he asked, accusing Israel’s government of erasing Palestinian identity and considering annexation of the West Bank.

He also criticized both parties for ignoring the issue in exchange for pro-Israel campaign donations. “You have four out of the five permanent UN Security Council members and more than 150 countries calling for recognition of a Palestinian state, and somehow the US isn’t,” Khanna said. “They’re blind. They’re making us stand on the side of the pariah in world opinion.”

Gilchrist went further, declaring that Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to genocide. “The Netanyahu government is committing a genocide. This isn’t a matter of opinion. It’s a matter of fact,” he said, citing global experts on genocide studies.

He argued that American taxpayer dollars should not fund weapons while children in Gaza face starvation, drawing a standing ovation from the audience.
