Ukraine Links Former Speaker’s Murder to Russian Involvement

1 min read

Ukrainian authorities say they suspect Russian involvement in the killing of former parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy, who was gunned down in Lviv on Saturday. Police chief Ivan Vyhivskyi described the attack as deliberate and politically charged, vowing that all those responsible would face justice.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed earlier on Monday that a suspect had been arrested, calling the incident “a horrific murder” that struck at the heart of national security during wartime. Russia has yet to respond to the allegations or comment on the killing.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said the suspected shooter was detained overnight in the Khmelnytskyi region. He revealed that the crime was meticulously planned, with the victim’s movements tracked, a route mapped, and an escape strategy prepared in advance.

According to Vyhivskyi, the attacker disguised himself as a courier before approaching Parubiy in broad daylight. He fired eight shots, ensuring the victim’s death before fleeing the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, with officials withholding further details as they piece together the full scope of the plot. The killing has sent shockwaves through Ukraine’s political sphere, underscoring the heightened risks faced by public figures in a nation at war.
